Let me start off by saying, I don't believe Eschatology is a salvation issue. Having been a Christian for some time now, I have read some pretty absurd stuff on a variety of topics. I have found the problem is someone states something as a fact, and then someone who respects that person repeats it, and this "fact" is spread like the wind. No one fact checks this "fact," and we end up with misinformation that we are teaching Christians. As I stated, I am not talking only about eschatology; this happens with many doctrines.
There is a definite article in front of the noun "apostasy." Second Thessalonians 2:3 says, "Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition" (NKJV). Notice the definite article translated "the" in front of both "falling away" and "man of sin." By providing these two definite articles essentially Paul is indicating that the apostasy will be something that has specific, time bound-qualities just like the man of sin’s coming has such qualities. In other words, just like the advent of the man of sin will be specific and an instantaneous event in future history, the coming apostasia, or departure, will similarly be specific and time bound.[1]So basically, his point is if a Greek Noun has an article, it must have "time bound-qualities." That makes no sense because nouns generally speaking don’t have time bound-qualities at all. But let’s assume he’s right. Essentially what he is asserting is that God is NOT ETERNAL! Why, based on Revelation 1:8, "'I am the Alpha and the Omega,' says the Lord God, 'who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.'" The Greek is (I put a star before each Greek Article): Ἐγώ εἰμι * τὸ Ἄλφα καὶ * τὸ Ὦ," λέγει Κύριος * ὁ Θεός, * ὁ ὢν καὶ * ὁ ἦν καὶ * ὁ ἐρχόμενος, * ὁ Παντοκράτωρ. ALMOST EVERY WORD IN THAT SENTENCE CONTAINS A GREEK ARTICLE! So based on "Dr." Woods teaching Jesus only existed instantaneously for about a second. There are no real Greek scholars that would agree with this absurd statement. What Andy Woods wrote is absolutely absurd, and he should have this removed from his book. Additionally, he apparently has his doctorate and apparently knows Greek, which leaves me to think that he is purposely deceiving people. Why would you want to follow someone who is trying to deceive people? FOOTNOTES BIBLIOGRAPHY Woods, Andy. The Falling Away. Taos, New Mexico: Dispensational Publishing House, Inc., 2018.
